Project Overview
A common typographic project I always wanted to try was to design a menu, with an added challenge of including both Chinese and English on it. For this project, I took the menu and name of an existing teahouse in Beijing, China, and redesigned it. This teahouse is one of my favorite places in China, and I wanted to create a menu that reflects its gentle and peaceful atmosphere.
Adding in My Illustrations
Before I added in my illustrations, the menu looked almost too clean. It didn’t communicate the lush and soothing interior of the actual teahouse. I did a bit of research on what kinds of plants are common on Chinese porcelain, and decided to draw small persimmon branches.
